About Multiple Action Research Group (MARG)

MARG is a forerunner in the field of access to justice and legal empowerment. Since 1985 the organisation has been engaged in the legal empowerment of disadvantaged and marginalized groups through legal awareness, socio-legal research, advocacy initiatives and legal aid. MARG works both at grassroots and policy-making levels. 

Project Background

This project aims to make the promise of “active citizenry education to empower women in gram panchayats and good  governance”   a reality by providing legal empowerment to women, the poor and members of other marginalized communities at the grass root level and encourage them to be assertive in the enforcement of their rights and bring change in their lives. Active citizenry education will converge legal literacy, financial literacy and health literacy, scaling up entrepreneurship and self-reliance.

 Project Area:  Gorakhpur District

 Job description:

 The Project Coordinator: S/he will be responsible to ensure quality project implementation and monitoring through capacity building and support, in order to empower women from marginalized communities in 102 Gram Panchayats of Gorakhpur district, Uttar Pradesh.

 S/he will be reporting to the Director Programme. This position will be based in Gorakhpur right now but it is transferable in any project area if require as per project needs.

 JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure proper implementation by developing plans in accordance with project timelines and organizational norms to achieve project objectives.
  • Periodically monitor project progress through the development of data collection formats, data collection, and analysis for timely course correction.
  • Develop periodic reports in line with organizational and donor requirements to document project processes and the achievement of objectives.
  • Support and guide the project team in preparing a realistic budget that aligns with organizational norms and supports the achievement of project objectives.
  • Build and maintain active relationships with government departments, organizations working in similar fields, media, and other stakeholders for collaboration, information sharing, and policy influence to enhance project outcomes.
  • Establish linkages with non-governmental organizations to promote information sharing, convergence, and prevention of duplication of efforts.
  • Document success stories and best practices from the field and share them for learning and knowledge exchange.
  • Facilitate learning and sharing among project team members and ensure their capacity building for improved performance.

 Required Qualification and Skills:

  1. Master’s degree in Social Work/Social science /LL.B
  2. Women candidates are encouraged to apply for this position.
  3. Good understanding of women’s right and access to justice mechanism in India
  4. Previous experience in managing projects with Result Based Management (RBM) framework skills.
  5. Fluent in spoken and written English and Hindi
  6. Efficient time management skills, willingness to work with a tight deadline and ability to work in complex and diverse working environments.
  7. Well-versed with computer applications, data analyses, Word Processing, and Audio-Visual PowerPoint Presentations.
  8. Competent writing skills with ability to describe analyse and report project progress.
  9. Having own laptop and bike (scooty) to facilitate the work.

Experience: Minimum 5 years of experience in managing social projects.

Duration: 1st May. 2025 – 31st March 2026 (Contractual consultancy basic)

Remuneration: As per experience and organizational norms (negotiable)  

Travel Requirements: Must be comfortable in traveling to the project areas for regular supervision and coordination.
