On the occasion of International women’s day on 8th March 2019, we organized a Delhi Level Women Consultation on the law against sexual harassment at workplace, at IIC Annexe, Delhi. The key discussants/speakers in the programme were Mr. Andrew Mackinzie, Deputy Head, British High Commission in India, Ms. Tanvi Khurana, Ld. Secretary, South East Delhi Legal Services Authority, Mr. ChanderJit Singh, Ld. Secretary, New Delhi District Legal Services Authority, Mr. Vinod Kumar Meena, Ld. Secretary, West Delhi Legal Services Authority, Ms. Kirti Parmar, Pannel Lawyer, North East Delhi Legal Services Authority, Ms Anurag Rita, Pannel Lawyer, South Delhi Legal Services Authority, Ms. Garima Bharadwaj, Pannel Lawyer, North West Delhi Legal Services Authority. Demonstration of self defence techniques by the Special Police Unit for Women and Child of Delhi Police was one of the key attraction of the event. Interaction with judicial officers was really helpful to infuse a sense of belief in the Judicial system and rule of law.
Apart from Legal awareness and understanding the issues and gaps related to sexual harassment at the workplace, this was to facilitate a dialogue process between its participants and key stakeholder. There were workers from unorganised working women, women professionals including lawyers, doctors, female teachers and students, poet, media, women corporate workers, women police officers, Special Police Unit for women and child of Delhi police, Delhi Legal Services Authorities, CSOs and Mahila Panchayats/Delhi Commission for Women, Labour commissioners, members and chairpersons of Local Committee against SHW, including relevant duty bearers and stakeholders. This was part of our intervention “Combatting violence against women at the workplace by strengthening redress mechanism against sexual harassment” with the support of the British High Commission in India.
